New Pirelli tires (what a difference)

I finally made the move and replaced the crappy bridgestons on my LTZ 20s with Pirelli cintrato p7 all season plus and wow!! What a difference much quieter and a lot softer ride. Only had 8000 miles on the stones but could not stand the road noise and harsh ride. Now the impala feels like a different car. It's unreal how much tires can change a cars ride and feel. For me it was well worth the money to not wait until I wore out the stones. I am now 100% happy with my impala.

Thanks to silver surfer for making the move first and for sharing his reviews in an earlier post it was very helpful in my decision. He was spot on with his review.

I have been touting these tires since 2014. And agree while heartedly. Have the 20s on my Lincoln and the 18s on my son's 2014 Limited. I used to be a pure Michelin customer, but these are the best tires I've ever had on any car, bar none.

I think they are talking about the 9th gens that came with Bridgestones. Typically, stock tires are usually crap, regardless of the brand though.

I too put Bridgestone Turanza w/Serenity Plus on my 2012 as well. Not cheap, but they are great tires. I have 17" wheels and they have a 75k mile treadlife warranty too, which is a bonus.

The 20s on the 2015 come with bridgestone potenza and they are junk!! I heard the Goodyear are crap to
The 19's on the 14-16 Impala are the Eagle RS-A2 (complete redesign from the old Eagle RSA). I have never been a big fan of Goodyear's, but these have been the best Goodyear's I have ever had, They are quiet, handle fairly well, not too bad in snow and don't seem to be wearing badly. I'm not saying there is not better to be had, but the RS-A2 is the best factory OEM tire I have ever had on a car, far better than the Eagle GA's that were on my 01 Impala, now those were junk.

My 15 with 18" came with the Firestone Firehawk GT and they seem fine to me so far. They do spin a little easy sometimes on take off but it may just be my driving. :3gears:

I've seen a big difference as well from swapping stock 18 inch wheels which on FIRESTONE tires to 20 inch wheels with michellen pilot primacy.

The car just grip and grip. It hold it place in corners not like the Firestone. I can say I m much confident driver. It doesn't spin the first two gears like it used to in 18 stock tires.

I have put about 2000 miles on these tires and I can say they are much quieter and softer riding than the potenzas. As far as handling go they are about the same. I am very happy with these tires. I could not stand the noise that came from the potenzas even at slow speeds. The side walls on the potenzas are a lot stiffer than the pirells I checked them both while off the wheels. I am still very happy that I made the change. Will have to see how they hold up after a couple of years they are suppose to be 70000 mi. tires, but I doubt that. :)

I now have 4 potenzas that I need to sell with around 8000 mi

i need tires and had the conti extreme contacts but they are down to 4/32 and starting to slide in the rain. they had a 50K warranty and i notice the pirelli seems to be about the same price and have 70K warranty. i realize no one ever gets money back from a warranty but i the pirelli can last me 10 or 20K more than the contis, i will get them.

assuming they handle just as good too i hope, i can drive fast down the highway and the contis inspire confidence

Tire warranties are such crap......If you have 10% tread left, that's what they give you. Whether you put 10,000km on them or 50,000km. I don't know how they get away with stated that as a warranty. As far as tire performance, it generally goes better handling wear quicker because rubber softer. There are some better than others but its a compromise between wear and handling.

Just adding that I am going on two years in November with these tires on my Lincoln and one year in November on the Impala Limited. Still, hands down, the best all-around all season tire I have ever had. Hands down.

any comment on treadlife and if you feel they will get to 70K. i'm unsure how much more they are at my local dealer vs tire rack. but 20K extra gets me about 7 or 8 months of wear so i have to decide if it's worth it if they really can go that far

I am probably not a good indicator. We have 3 vehicles that we put a grand total of about 15 thousand miles on per year . Very different driving habits than you . :)

I only put on about 6000 miles a year on the Lincoln and we're putting on about 3,000 miles a year on the Impala. Almost a hundred percent of the Impala driving is around town. Probably 70% of the Lincoln driving is also short trips around town. And, with the Lincoln, I tend to have fun with it when I can and I'm definitely harder on the tires then most people are . So, my tires probably would not last the number of rated miles due to all the around town stop and go and cornering driving. I believe that the tires are rated with the assumption that people drive 50% Highway and 50% around town. And of course the assumption that people are not driving aggressively.

I can tell you that they are wearing very evenly. But about the only thing I can't attest to is how many miles someone might get out of them.

p7 were 227 plus all the taxes and fees. only my 1st day back at work but i noticed 2 good things. near my house is a washboard highway that the old noise disappeared on with new tires. also another road they paved 'weird' and the contis always caught the groove of the patch job they did along the shoulder, didnt have that issue today.

2 known bouncy spots did feel better but i have to drive a week on them to be sure.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

no issues with factory goodyears on 2016,road noise is within my normal range, and handling has been acceptable. Will break loose off line tho if you slam it. Louisiana so snow basically never happens

after over a week i can say these are louder on 'some' concrete surfaces than i expected. i just expected whisper quiet with new tires and i'm sure i expected too much. also its not all concrete. not a bar to purchase in any case. just a minor note.

on asphalt i can take a nap they are so quiet. today had drizzle so i really havent had a chance to get in any rain yet with them.

Yes, read the Firestone Firehawk GT reviews on Tire Rack. Not good. The 18" ones on my '16 LTZ rode like bricks and thumped. Not much traction either, and they reportedly get worse with use. I changed mine out at 6,000 total miles.

I installed the Pirelli All Season Plus tires and they make a big difference. We installed them earlier on our Mazda5 with 17" rims and it made a HUGE difference in every way. On this Impala LTZ, I'd say the ride and noise are 50% better. Only so much you can do with 18" rims I guess. My car came from the factory with 20" wheels, but I talked the dealership into a trade for the 18"s on another Impala on the lot. My car rides nice now most of the time (say 98%), only occasionally doing a vertical jiggle over choppy pavement. Considering the good handling, it's not bad at all. Not as cushy as my 2011 Camry, but not as floaty and disconnected either.

Watch the tire pressures. 35 lbs of air rides fine, but 40 rides stiff.

these tires have cured a problem on a local road. they paved just 1 ft out from the shoulder and the contis always got caught in the groove so to speak and i was all over the road. with the new tires i have no such issue on this road
