OGM-1 or equivalent?

Apologizing in advance, because I'm sure this subject has been brought up a hundred times, but I'm wanting to replace my stock radio on my 2007 impala with something similar to the Advent OGM-1. I know that they run around $600-$700 new, but I've heard of people getting them cheaper. Just looking for suggestions from you guys! I'm trying to maintain the OEM look to the car. Thanks for any input guys!

Actually, the OGM-1 is discontinued, so if you want one of those, you'd have to buy used. They do come up on Ebay every once in a while, but are usually very expensive ($600+). The only brand name "OEM-look, plug-and-play" model still being made is the Rosen 1210 - which is basically the same thing as the Advent OGM-1. Another member had the Advent and had nothing but problems (after 3 replacements, he eventually just got a refund and got the Rosen).

Personally, I'd recommend the Rosen 1210. They are not cheap - about $750 new. If you don't; want to spend that kind of $$, you can be patient and wait for an older Rosen mode (1010) to come up on Ebay. I've now purchased two of them used on Ebay - one for $150 and one for $250. Both were fully operational - I still have one in my car. I've posted a review of the 1010 in the Audio/Video section if you want to read it.

Another, less expensive option is to get a "no-name" plug and play unit from Ebay - they do exist and can be had for $350-$500 new on Ebay. The main "con" is that they don't support XM on OnStar - and will generally be of lower quality. But then again, some do run Android, which would be nice...

So you have a few options really... If/when my 1010 dies, I'll be getting a Rosen 1210.

If you don't need XM or OnStar and are looking for something a little less expensive, you may want to consider one of these:

Android based:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161563571184
http://www.ebay.com/itm/191389121379

Windows-CE based:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161408382470
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190956457643

These are all completely plug-and-play as well. I really like the first Android model - if I didn't have XM/OnStar, I'd probably go for that one - especially if you are an Android fan like me! Would be cool to be able to run any Android app on your car stereo! :)

Currently, there is only one 1010 on Ebay and they want like $900 (the 1010 retailed for about $1299 new). The newer model (1210) is actually less expensive (~$750/$800 new), but is better than the 1010 in most respects - the main difference is that the 1010 has (2) full-size SD slots and has BBE technology (which is a sound enhancement technology) - I'm guessing that it was too expensive to license, which is why they got rid of it in the newer 1210 model - probably why it's cheaper as well. The 1010 also lets you install any Windows-CE-based GPS app you want - but the 1210 has iGo MyWay GPS app built in, which is probably the best there is anyway.... Rosen and Advent models are Windows-CE based.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have ANY questions - I've spent a LOT of time researching these types of units!

My understanding is that nobody has gotten the actual GM units to work properly in an Impala though - from what I recall reading, the navigation doesn't work (something to do with not having access to a VSS sensor or something).

Honestly, everything I read online says that the aftermarket units are WAY better than the GM units anyway (and less expensive to boot).

I don't need navigation either. I prefer using my iPhone and just have it hook up to the stereo. However, Bluetooth is a must. Also, when I get a new radio, will the volume limit get raised? I am pretty tired of the "45" volume limit on my Impala, not nearly loud enough..

Navigation is one of the nicest things about these! I also have a phone, but it is SO nice having navigation always ready and waiting. Plus, it announces directions over the music (lowers the music to make verbal navigation announcements) - all very cool and very useful instead of trying to use a tiny phone for navigation!

They will generally be louder than the stock radio as they have higher wattage amps in them.

Well I will probably start using the built-in GPS once I move back to the states, but considering I am in Germany right now, probably going to have to stick to my iPhone. I am really liking the first Andriod OS one you linked. Wouldn't mind getting a Bluetooth keyboard and I can link it to my phones Wifi hotspot! Is it truely PnP (Plug'n'Play)? I see that it comes with a lot of extras. I don't have steering wheel controls or any aftermarket amps or subs.

Yeah, that first one looks really cool. If I didn't use XM all of the time, I would have bought that one long ago! Looks really nice. Yes, it's truly 100% plug-and-play - literally takes about 10-15 minutes to un-install the old one and install the new one! Only thing that might take some time is running the GPS antenna and backup camera if you connect those. The radio itself is super simple on the 8th gen though.

Even if you did have steering-wheel controls, they would work out-of-the-box. That's what's so nice about these plug-and-play units - you don't need a single fitment adapter or any wiring harnesses or anything. And they fit and look like they came installed from the factory - no "adapters" needed to make them fit properly.

I'm sure there is a slight delay at boot-up, but probably not as long as your phone or tablet. Even my Rosen (Windows CE) takes about 5-10 seconds to become fully operational when I start the car. I honestly don't know how long this model takes though. You might want to ask the seller because I don't think there is anyone on here that has one of these yet.

Or, search the web - since that one is actually a name brand (Eonon) and they give you a model number (GA5180), you might be able to find some info out there...

Would LOVE to see some feedback on the Eonon Android head-unit if you end up getting it. I might even consider dropping XM if it is as nice as it looks - especially for that price... The nice thing is that it's a US-based seller (unlike a lot of these "Chinese" head-units) - so it should ship quickly and you can easily return it if you don't like it (haven't checked to see if buyer or seller pays return shipping though).

Think you are going to go with the Eonon - or are you still in "research" mode?

Yeah I'm waiting for the seller to reply back. It wouldn't let me ship to my military address over here. Might have to work some magic on that. Also, I found this one on Amazon:
Amazon.com : Eonon G2104u 6.2 Inch Double 2 DIN Car DVD Player with GPS System, Support Bluetooth, Ipod Input, Steering Wheel Control for Ad System, GPS Dual Zone, Touch Screen, Free Map for Us & Canada : In Dash Vehicle Gps Units : Car Electronics

Any difference between this one and the first android one that you linked? It looks like it's kinda strayin away from the OEM look, but it's a hundred dollars cheaper, so.. Lol
