So I've had my 2013 for about 4 months now... we've had a lot of snow lately, yesterday it started getting warm out and almost entirely melted away, I got a car wash on the way to work today... no check engine line, it was very windy and damp/foggy/drizzly/light rain all day today.

I come out of work, start the car, no check engine line, I get about a mile down the road... check engine line. Come home, hook my ODB-II up and

P2269 water in fuel condition $7E8

Any ideas? Car only has 34k miles on it, unless a magical fairy put water in my gas tank on a secured parking lot at the airport behind concertino wire today while I was at work... I'm suspecting it's the moisture in the air or the car wash... I don't have another vehicle and am really hoping I don't have to take it to the dealer and fork out cash and be without a car for God only knows how long.

Been getting my gas at the exact same place for the 12 years I've been driving never had a problem. Driven a hundred miles or so on this tank before it came on, I think it has to either be the car wash this morning or the rainy-windy-foggy day we had today. I guess I'll find out, I plan to pick up some heet tomorrow and pour it in before I drive the 15 miles to church, that will be another 30ish miles on that gas and I'll see what it does.

i have seen a few of these, the fuel composition sensor is more than likely not sensing the fuel composition properly. I had a GMC Terrain the other day and it had the same code and the sensor was reading 190 hz and telling the pcm that their was 100% ethanol in the fuel and only 9% was measured and no contamination found in the fuel. All it needed is a new fuel composition sensor and it was good to go and this is probably what you need. You may still be under warranty so take your car to the dealer and get it fixed.

Well, it came back on about 15 seconds after I started the car, I had to drive a few blocks to a mailbox and no sooner than I got out of the drive it was on *sigh* I know the original warrant is over, this was a commercial lease turn in that I bought used and I think the original warranty only had a few weeks left when I bought it. They suckered me into the expensive ass extended warranty crap but I don't know if it will cover this. Hopefully putting some heet in tomorrow and driving that tank down and getting some new gas then clearing the code will be the end of the issue.

I just find it weird that I've driven about 4k miles on the car, not a problem. Then today I get a car wash after lots of snow and road salt... then it's windy and super-damp out all day and THEN it starts doing that after all this moisture. Just seems like a weird coincidence. But sadly, I think it's the sensor based on googling this code... looks like whoever makes these sensors makes crap because I see it appearing in all kinds of GM vehicles from cars to suvs to diesel work trucks.

All I have for my extended warranty they suckered me into is the brochure, it mentions plenty of fuel related sensors but not that sensor, so really hoping that putting some heet in it today and driving that gas out of it will make it stop coming back on after I clear it as I don't have the money to pay for it myself if warranty doesn't cover it, heh I'm barely managing the payments.

Just a thought is that if you have less than 3/4 of a tank of fuel and the car is in and out of heated areas such as a car wash, repair shop or heated parking you will get a condensation build up in the fuel tank.
With my cars I make sure the tank is full before I go into a heated area.
Your concern with the car wash is condensation build up in the fuel tank not humidity from the car wash (air) entering the fuel system as the car fuel system is a closed system.
This should work Gas Line Antifreeze | Walmart.ca.

They told me when I bought it it only had a few weeks left on the warranty and wrote the paperwork up as is/no warranty, I don't know if that's because it was a commercial lease vehicle that was turned in or what. Never had a vehicle even remotely new, my last vehicle was a 95 toyota t100 that was my father's until he died in 98, then my mothers until 2001 and I drove it till this fall heh.

I put 2 bottles of heet in it today, going to drive that gas down. Never had a car that had a stupid moisture sensor and there is absolutely no performance issue and every other sensor is giving great readings so hopefully it's just moisture and not a bad sensor.

Hey Ryan, I'm sorry you have to go through all of this. The extra sensors and what have ya on vehicles now a days are a necessity in order to keep the engines and components running at peak performance, as well as the emissions components. I would still go ahead and head down to the dealership service department and not say anything about the warranty and see what they say about repairs and warranty coverage. You can also call GM Customer Care and see if they can be of any assistance to you other than trying to help point you to a dealership service department...

For now I'm just going to run this gas out, reset the code and refill with another bottle of heet and run that if the code comes back during that tank wait till it's empty, refill and reset. If it then comes back on I'll be taking it in either way... even if I have to pay... I'll find the money somehow, I expect my side business sales to pick up once the year ends and I'll be good, it'll take a couple of weeks to get through 2 tanks of gas anyway.

Since it is technically a code about water in the fuel, I'm going to assume that is actually the case and that it isn't a bad sensor (maybe just a very sensitive sensor), I mean in the past 2 weeks we've had about 6 inches of snow and below freezing temps moving to 30's-50's past few days with about 8 inches of rain and I had a car wash during the few hour transition of the weather so I'm hoping it's just tank condensation.

Well after I put those 2 bottles of heet in Saturday, I've used somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 a tank of gas. When I started the car to go to work this morning, check engine line was still on. When I started the car to leave work this afternoon... guess what had turned itself off... check engine light was off :) looks like it was just moisture in the tank and not a bad sensor. Going to be annoying as I imagine that's going to happen a couple of times a winter around here, used to cars that were too dumb to know they had some moisture. I wonder how much it needs to detect before it flags... I wonder if it's PPM, PPT or PPH

I just had this code appear on my car today as it was idling/warming up in the driveway. I cleared it via my Garmin GPS and it has not come back. If it does come back, I will take it in to the dealership.

My fuel tank is nearly full but we have had a bit of an ice storm here lately and today the temperatures were -17C, so we will see.

This is not a dangerous or critical code, and I am not worried about it at all.

Your Garmin GPS can clear codes? Very cool!

Yup, it does, comes in handy for other than giving directions. The EcoRoute a cool addition (Garmin: ecoRoute™ HD Incompatible Vehicles List), and is very accurate when it comes to calculating fuel usage and a few other minor things from the car.

I wouldn't bother taking it to the dealer. It's basically saying "hey go fill up and use a bottle of heet" but they want you to think "ermagerd my car is gonna splode!!!"

lol... yeah, I'll look into the bottle of HEET tomorrow morning.

P2269 & p0179

I have a 2013 GMC Terrain 15k miles. I have been getting the above code. 4 times in less the 6 weeks. First time dealer replace a "defective" fuel sensor. Secound time they said they found trace of a mouce. Third time they found a bottle of heet in my storage area and told me the heet will destroy the sensor. Light came back on last Sunday and the dealer is booked this week. Can't wait to hear the next report.
I live in North East Ohio area. I have used mostly Shell gas since I got the car. Each time the light came on I call OnStar so there is a record of when. I checked code P0179 on the Internet and the code is for FlexFuel engines. Not only GM products but Ford, Toyota, and most makes that have FlexFuel. It is not nessarly moister in the fuel. Could be a bad ground on the sensor, coroaded connectors, dip stick or oil fill not seated properly (air pressure in engine), dirty fuel injector, chip in the main computer, and several others. My car is outside most all the time so not a warm area and then a cold area. I have read that with the new gas caps and fuel systems that condensaion is not a problem. Problem seems to occure when the weather is cold and damp.
We have a Chevy HHR with FlecFuel and a KIA Sorento and neither have had a problem. I do not know if the KIA has FlexFuel.
So that is my story and I hope it helps.

Hey ryanmercer i had the same prob in canada early Dec,the dealer said contamination in gas,Dec 24 heading for florida the engine light came on and off maybe 10 times, went to a dealer in zephyrhills, told me the same thing,i said i put all kind of gas stabilizer so they said the sensor must be gone, they change the sensor and that was the end of THIS problem lol.Hope it helps

Car sat for a couple weeks, took it out today... no code. Meh... it's one of "those" things... lol

I did top up the tank today, just to be sure, as the car is going to sit again for a couple of weeks, so we shall see. Again, I don't see it as a big issue, just a minor irritation when it is there.

In my case it has nothing to do with gas, gas level, where I get the gas from etc. It's purely a rapid change in humidity in the air combined with a rapid increase in temperature. It did not do this in the summer or fall it's only done it this winter when we will be below freezing for extended periods (usually dipping into the negatives, as low as -17F) then it'll warm up for a day or two getting in the upper 30's and all the snow will start to melt and like clockwork about 12 hours into the warm up/thaw BAM check engine line, the check engine light even goes away on it's own once all the humidity in the air is gone or it dips below freezing again.

Last week it warmed up for several days... about 12 hours into the first day BAM check engine light... after a couple of days all the snow had melted, humidity was down, road spray was gone and... check engine light went off on it's own. That makes the 4th time this winter.

I am not sure what it is. It has not returned since I cleared it, and it came on during fill-ups from 2 different gas stations. The place I fill up the most at is the local Costco. They go through gas so fast that they have the refill tankers there near every week, so the chances of it being bad gas is slim to none... it's not sitting long enough to collect any moisture.

If, like mentioned above, someone is getting bad idle, stalls and what not, obviously it is not the same issue and this deserves some immediate attention.

That issue of the key fob not working is a PITA, but I understand why... one does not want the car in less than optimal condition being able to start and run without someone being inside it o make the decision if it should be running or not under the circumstances, however, I wish that some codes were excluded... like this one for example.

I have a 13 impala with 28k. I went out of town and filled up.as soon as i started the car the check engine light came on. I called ONSTAR and they said water in fuel condition exist. The car never ran rough or had any trouble starting. We drove home (100) miles and took the car to a mechanic who dropped the tank cleaned the tank..said there was some water in the tank. He flushed the system and replaced the tank. I filled up on premium fuel from a well known station and the check engine light is still on after i reset it. When i used the key fob the car will start then shut off after about 10 sec. Immediately after that the check engine light came back on....car starts a bit hard in the cold morning but runs great sounds normal. The car shut off one time when i started it but fired right up after...please please help!!!! Thanks
