Any advice on pricing my 06 SS?
Hello Impala forums! I've been browsing your forums for quite some time now and although I have never made the effort to post anything I've found a lot of interesting things out about my car through you guys.
Anyway, my family has recently come to the decision to sell my 2006 Impala SS. We have four cars already and tooling around town in this one just seems to be a little dumb at this point. Although I achieve decent mileage on the freeways I usually just take side streets which I've found is especially inefficient when dealing with the "deactivating cylinders." My dad and I are very knowledgeable about our cars and how to take care of them, but when it comes to selling this one we are a little perplexed. The reason being is we got the car from a very old friend of the family. He bought the car on a whim when he already had two other cars to use and he found himself only driving it on the weekends to get groceries. Other that that it was just in the garage. He put a whopping 6000 miles on it by the time we got it in 2010. Since then we have managed to keep the car in pretty much "new" condition and have only just hit 17,000 miles. We don't really know how to approach selling it, or what is a valid asking price. NADA guides place it at $19,100, so we have the car listed for $19,000 on Cars, Autotrader, and craigslist. The only problem is we can never find another SS with such low miles in the area to compare it to, and no similar cars are on the market. We think its fair to ask around 6k more than the base models of the same time are selling for when they have upwards of 50 or 60 thousand miles on them. As fellow Impala owners I simply come to you asking your opinion on the price and the car, am I shorting myself out a few grand I could easily get? Are we expecting too much? Any opinions would be much appreciated. I'll post the link to the ads below which include the pictures and details, please understand I'm not doing this as some sort of sales pitch to you guys. If I were, admitting I'm not exactly sure what to sell it for would probably be a horrible idea Not to mention I'm probably thousands of miles away from most of you. Just go to kbb.com and enter the info, it will tell you what it's worth in your area. According to Kelly blue book, a 2006 SS with the base options, in excellent condition, with 17k miles, in my area, is worth about $15k. Your results may vary.

honestly, the low miles don't do all that much for it. my good friend got his 2008 SS, in 2010, with 6000 miles on it, for $19,000 certified. I think 12 to 15k for a 6 year old car with no warranty would be a good price for you to get.

Two things, While KBB is a good gauge, also scour your local Autotrader and Craigslist listings for cars like yours. That will give you a good idea

An 06 SS was around $25-27k brand new, no way it is worth $19k after 6 years. But it does seem to hold its value well. I would say $12-15k also which is about 50% of its new value. After 6 years that is a great deal.

The 06 to 09 SS will never be classics, so whoever buys it will use it as a daily driver. Lots of 19K used cars out there. That is a high price point for a used Impala.

Thanks for all the responses! I really appreciate it. I've lowered the price for now to 18.5, would obviously negotiate down. Since I'm not in a rush I'll try my best to get the most I can, I'll just have to find someone who really likes the car. Luckily it's spotless inside and almost spotless outside!
I took it into a Chevy dealer I've slowly become acquainted with a and they said around here they manage to sell the SS's for a good amount. Something about surfer dudes wanting a quick DD with a lot of room in the trunk etc. I don't want to seem like those guys on pawnstar's who get denied the price they find fitting and go running out angry haha. I will without a doubt take all the input into consideration. I might have to weigh weather or not it's worth it for me to sell the car if I can't get over 16! Who knows ![]() |
