Service Air Bag

I searched the forum the best I could from my DROID, but was unable to turn any results. Has anyone had problems with the air bag sensor? My dash keeps displaying Service Air Bag, and tripping on the red air bag light that comes on with initial start up. Sometimes it goes off and clears itself. Other times it will remain on until I turn the car off and back on. Of course it only does it when it wants to. It came on when i test drove it, so i had the dealer note it as something they would fix before we made the deal. When I took it back for service...you guessed it...they couldn't replicate it. Service told me to keep an eye on it, and bring it back if it came back on. Today it started again. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know of what may be causing this? The best I can figure is a faulty sensor.. any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Btw it an '09 LTZ.

There should be a code set, have they bothered scanning it?

They said they checked codes for it, and found nothing. I took pix of it being on tho.
I'm taking it back Wednesday and leaving it, until they fix it.

They have a serious liability on their hands if they don't address it, just remind them that it's a safety issue.

I made sure to remind them of that this morning when I dropped it off. Supposedly they replaced the connectors in the column. Since the warnings were occasional, I guess time will tell if they actually fixed the problem. I will pick it up when I get out of the office.

On another note, they gave me a 2012 Impala LS with 500 miles as a loaner vehicle. It made me love my LTZ all that much more. I didn't realize how different the two handled. Although, I wouldn't mind having that 6 spd transmission.

I'm having this problem too. There is a recall for 09 impala airbag. Did your issue get resolved?

I did. The dealership took care of it. They replaced the connection, which I believe is somewhere in the steering column. There is some type of fault in the connector itself, which disturbs the current, and trips the trouble code. I haven't see the error message since then. It took them about an hour. Half of which the car was sitting waiting on an available tech.

I had an issue like that in my 07 lt but I could sometimes replicate it by putting someone in the passenger seat putting the seatbelt on then lifting off the seat.

I had the intermittent "SERVICE AIRBAG" light. Had the codes read, faulted for "Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Has High Resistance". Turns out one of the three yellow plugs under the passenger seat had a bad connection. After unplugging and replugging, the fault went away, and hasn't come back. Pretty sure it was one of the two plugs near the back of the seat. There is a forward one, also.

Chevy needs to do a recall on this. I have searched the internet and found this is all over the internet. My 2009 Chevy Impala does the same thing. They (the dealership) cant figure out what is wrong and why the light will go away for a bit and come back. There has to be an electrical issue or Sensor isssues with the car. Also I have power locks and they work fine on all the other doors except the drivers door.

I'm having the same problem with my 2010 Impala. The air bag check light on the dash board comes on. It stays on and then will click out. Concern that this will impact me during a crash. On Star recommends taking it to a dealer which I have and they couldn't duplicate the problem. Taking it to another dealer next week.
