Security relearn HELP!
Hey guys,
I have a 2008 impala ls ( i think it was a fleet model) with the 3.5l v6 in it. I just got a reprogammed ECM/TCM and went to hook up the ECM and i cant do the security relearn process. Here is what i do. Disconnect the battery, unplug the factory ecm, plug in the reprogrammed on, reconnect the battery. Then turn the key on for 10min, after 10min, turn key off for 5 seconds, repeat that 2 more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30min. I turn the key on and get a SERVICE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM message along with a change oil soon message. I wait the 10,11,15 minutes neither message goes away. I wait 10,11,15 min and just go through with the 3 cycle instructions and it doesn't start. I have tried it with my door open, door closed, I have tried turning the key on then into the crank position then leaving it in the on position for 10 min and doing the cycle of shutting it off for 5secs and the turning the key on and crank position then letting it stay on for 10min ect. I have even tried it where i hit the checkmark button right as the security message comes up or wait untill after 10 or 11 minutes to clear the message. Is it just the 2008 impalas or the ls impalas or fleet model impalas or could it be the ecu because I can throw the stock ecu back in and she will fire up no problem. The tcu is working great after my 5mile test run with the stock ecu in the car. I am very mechanically inclined. I feel I have done everything in the directions to a tee and some other ways i wanted to try just to see and it's just not working at all. __________________ Pictures and mod list here http://www.impalaforums.com/chevy-im...-mad-pics.html ![]() Know the truth http://infowars.com |

Overkill changes the time to 10 seconds, perhaps you are waiting too long. Didn't you get a pamphlet with it?

Yeah the directions in the pamphlet say 10min on 5secs off. I have been workin with will on it and he confirms it should be 10min on and 5secs off. He also said try 11min on 5secs off. Also i have done 10,11min on 10secs off. I work so much it is hard to work with him directly on it but we have tried a few things so far and havent had any luck. I just wanna make sure I get everyones opinions an suggestions before I have to send back the ECM and swap it for another. Shipping from Canada to pa can be 4 days or 4 weeks with customs.

Hey guys I just got done, tried the relearn process again 8 times and still no luck. There is a little Dash light of a car and a lock along with the dic center message service theft deterrent system. That little dash light took over 15 min to turn off the first couple of times and now it's down to 9.5 -10.5 min and it will turn off but the dic message stays up. I have been doing the process after the dash light goes out and have done it 3 times now an still the car won't start it just shuts off when I go to crank and after the 3 cycles the security things still pop up. I have done this at least 12 times now which is like 6 hours I know I shouldn't be having this much trouble. Is there anyway is could be the ECM? I also read somewhere that gettin the service oil soon message means its more than likely a bad ECM.*

Hi Ejbiers,
I see you're in the midst of getting great DIY help from members, so I just wanted to hop on this thread to say I'm only a direct message away if you'd like me to research anything further for you. Best, Katie Chevrolet Customer Service |

Try switching back to the stock ECM, if it works again, it has to be an issue with the ECM.

Yeah like I said above if I throw the stock ECM in it will start right up no problem.
I'm gonna go ahead and ask Katie what the factory security relearn is on my car and give her my vIn I think that's just what I need before I just send it back. I'll let you know how it turns out. __________________ Pictures and mod list here http://www.impalaforums.com/chevy-im...-mad-pics.html ![]() Know the truth http://infowars.com |
