Key stuck need some input.

My 2009 impala LS key is stuck in the ignition and will not release. The car is totally dead. I went out and used the remote start and the car started. When I got in I hit the brake and killed the engine. When I tried to start it it was dead and I could not get the key out. I tried to jump it and no luck. Any ideas? I bought the car used three days ago.

That kind of sounds like the park/neutral safety switch has malfunctioned. What I mean is that it sounds like when though the shifter may be in park, something has happened to make the car think that it is not in park, so you can't remove the key. And then you can't start it either, because it thinks it is not in park. Its a safety feature. The only problem is, I have no idea where the part that would need replaced or repaired is. I would contact whoever you bought it from and ask them to fix it, since you just bought it.

Hi Bigbogg,

Very sorry to hear that you are experiencing this, especially so soon after purchase! I would recommend calling your Chevrolet dealership to work out a resolution. If you don't have a dealership you frequently use, then please feel free to send me a direct message with your area code and I can find options nearby.

Best,

Katie

I can suggest that there is a wiring harness under the center console, assuming the shifter is on the floor. If you take this apart, which should only take about 10 minutes, there is a wiring harness on the right side of the shifter, with black, yellow, and green wires. The green is for the shift knob lock, to put the car in gear. The yellow from what I understand, is the ignition lock, which sounds like the problem you are having. If the yellow is disconnected, try reconnecting that and see if that works.... Good Luck

And try making sure the steering wheel isn't jammed into the lock posisition. Basically try turning the wheel back and forth while removing the key.

Well come to find out that the after market remote start is the issue. The dealer said that they will have to remove it. Nice right they sold it to me with it installed. That will leave me without a remote. He said that he was going to talk to th eboss and see what they can do. Wish me luck. And thats for all the replys.

Well went and picked up the car today and they gave me a remote. They said that if I wanted a second one it would be extra.

Another way to get the key out is to unplug the negative wiring from the battery. my car wouldn't start and the key wouldn't come out because of the theft deterrent system was engaged.
