fuel pump access?

hey there, anybody know if the fuel pump on an 06 impala 3.9litre can be replaced without removing the gas tank??? is there a hole under the back seat anywhere?...

the car runs fine but just in case i ever have to replace the thing it would be nice to know if i could do it myself, otherwise i would need a car lift to get the tank down.

from what i have seen and read up on the tank has to be removed and the pump pulled from the top of the tank. gm's wizz kids though it would be a good idea to keep the dyi guys from fixing things in there wisdom they though what the hay lets jerk the dyi guys one more time, let's put the fuel filter in the friggen tank. i ask my self what brain dead dolts have they got in the gm think tank. the life guard at the gene pool was on strike on conception day for this type of thinking to occur

Just did one recently, yes you have to drop the tank. If you are an experienced mechanic, go for it. But if you aren't I would just take it in.
