Rear doors don't open

Ok, so I have a 2007 Impala, and both rear doors will not open. First, my rear passenger door had this issue maybe about a year ago. Didn't seem like an issue at all. Friend got out of the car and tried to close the door, and it wouldn't shut. The latch wouldn't catch, so I locked my doors and closed it. It all seemed fine until I unlocked my car and the door just wouldn't open. I thought all was fine until 2 weeks ago, because I could live with 1 working back door. My rear driver side door did the same thing! I listened closely to it, and the latch isn't lifting or anything. Like I try to open the doors from both sides and the handle will lift, but it just won't catch I guess. I'm out of town till wednesday. So I'm hoping I get some good answers before then, if not I'm taking it to the dealer to get fixed.

I doubt this is the problem, but the earlier caprices have a lever on the edge of the rear door which let's you keep the doors from opening from the inside. You can still open from the outside. I think it was for child safety.

Did you figure out what was wrong with your door? I have an 07 Impala LTZ and both of my rear doors are stuck shut. One went then soon after, the other. Its not the child safety or door locks. A friend removed the inside panel and put his hand inside and could open the door. There is a rod/wire connecting the inside to the outside door handles and it seems like that is disconnected or stretched. I dont want to go to the dealer to have it fixed. This seems to be a common problem with newer Impalas. I wonder if there will be a recall?

I had this happen on an 07 here at work, it was the driver door. Couldn't figure out the problem for the life of me, and it was random to boot. Eventually I said to hell with it and replaced the latch, haven't had an issue since.

So is it the "activator" on the driver side door that controls evrything?????

Im wondering if installing an aftermarket alarm system will get rid of this problem?????

Just bought an 06 impala LS for my daughter and same issue came up after about a week...one rear door then the other. Was hoping there was a recall on it since it seems to be a major safety issue. Can't afford to pay a dealer for an expensive fix.
