Problem with my 07SS

Remove this ad!
I am not sure where to post this issue as I do not know what type of issue it is.

When I bought the car in March, I would hear a very faint squeek when I backed out of parking spots (wheel turned sharply left, in reverse).

The dealership thought it was the steering rack. They replaced the steering rack. Since doing so, the squeek has gotten worse. It now happens whenever I have the wheel turned sharply at very low speeds (abt 5 mph... parking lot driving) whether left or right, forward or reverse.

The squeek sounds similar to a brake squeal, but never happens with my foot on the brake. It sounds like its coming from the wheels, but I could definitley be wrong, and is not consistent with the rotation of the wheel. I will hear about 3-5 separate squeels per one wheel rotation.

It sounds as if the driveshaft may be rubbing up against something. I really have no idea what this could be. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated so that I can bring this to the dealership with SOME suggestions.

Thanks as always fellas

Sounds like an axle issue.

have a good look at your calipers and rotors to make sure that one of the clips or something from a caliper is not bent out of shape and grinding on the rotor creating the noise.

Sounds like a CV joint thats missing some grease. You said only happens when turning, thats when the CV's is under stress, flexing. My two cents.

Hopefully that is all it is... I am keeping a list of possiblities... so far I have the following:

- Brake parts not alligned correctly, causing rubbing
- Steering shaft rubbing
- Axle related issue
- CV joints need greasing

Any other ideas are appreciated until I bring this in for fixing 7/11/09.

I had a similar problem with my last car. I would hear a slight squeak at slow speeds up to 8-10 MPH and after losing my mind and replacing everything I possibly could it turned out to be the hub bearing. I had gotten an really good deal on 4 new bearings and decided with 180k on the clock to replace all 4 and the sound disappeared!!! So check the hub (might need to be repacked or replaced) and if not probably CV joint.

When they changed the steering rack they also changed one of the hub assemblies... after that service the issue only got worse... im wondering if they skipped a step or possibly need to do the other side ... we will HOPEFULLY find out this saturday.

Fixed... It was the Anti Squeek sensors on the brake pads... figures the anti-squeek mechanism was CAUSING THE DAMN SQUEEK...

Also it needed a new ISS.... this is the 4th time it has been replaced since birth...
