The base model is a 3400, the LS is a 3800. Unless your like me. I have a 3400 with the SS interior and wheels. Just missing the 3800 bumper with fog lights.

You can say that again, when I bought mine I thought they were a lot more common. I'm finding they are not common at all.

I've got a 3800. It was a police car until two months ago.

There was a 2000 base model 3800 in the local classifieds last week, pretty trashed though.

Aren't 9C1 cars a base model with the 9C1 RPO package? They would still be base right? (Not LS, SS)

:)

The LS and SS are just "packages" on the base model too but like the 9C1 a 3800 is part of the package unless you have a 5.3 powered SS. A 3800 in a base model was an
$800 option that apparently few base model buyers selected. When most people see a base model they assume it's a 3400, when they see any of the others they assume
they have a 3800. Just think how much fun it would have been if you could have ordered the L67 in a base model.

I have a 2002 (non LS 3800). I've always considered it a fully loaded base model. Either way, it's pretty much an LS without the spoiler and fog lights.

That it in your avatar? Looks like it could be the younger twin to mine.

Sure is. It's a 2002. It's been a great car. What year is yours?

'01 with an '02 engine, the original blew up back in May. Haven't pulled it down yet but I'm pretty sure there's one connecting rod that's not "connecting" any more. I just bought it for a work beater but fell in love with it to the point I'm seriously thinking of selling my Studebaker and getting a different "beater" so I can turn this into something more than basic transportation. I'm thinking L67 swap one of these days.

AFAIK, the only options not available on base models were fog lights and painted rocker panels. Everything else was an option.
