Security light

Anyone else having trouble with the security light coming on while you are driving for no reason at all. I have a 2002 Impala and this happens at least a couple times a month. Should I be concerned?

Very common. I would check your remote batteries to start with. You may need to see a dealer soon because when the security system fails, you wont be able to start your car for around 10 minutes or so, same applies if you have a aftermarket unit. Even though its 10 minutes, its an inconvience.

Replace the pig tail behind the ignition switch, if you have a.worn ass key that will cause the light to come on and the lock cylinder to be replaced. I had it happen to me haha

If I replace the switch, do I have to reprogram the new keys? (RFID)

Only if you replace the lock cylinder. And if you get a new one, you get one with keys already made, just have to.program them

Or go here and bypass it all together...

GM Passlock Security Fix

Looks pretty straight forward, especially if done @ BCM, instead of at the lock cylinder.

That procedure won't work on my Impala. My Impala uses RFID keys and has a radio pick unit built into the ignition lock. On of Chevy's not so good ideas!

I have a 2006 impala - the key is stuck in the ignition, won't start, and get a message on the dash - service battery charging system, hood open (hood is not open), low fuel (has a full tank), and the security lock is on. My son was trying to hook up speakers when this happened. Any suggestions?
