Rear Seatback Removal - 2004 Impala - non-folding.

How do I remove the rear seatback in a 2004 Impala 3.4L?

They do not fold down. All the info on google was for folding down seatbacks.

Some kind of diagram or walk-through would be great if anyone has a link that I missed while searching.

That's the folding seat again. For yours, after you pull the seat bottom out, you will see two tabs coming down from the seat back secured to two studs with 10mm nuts. Remove those, pull the back forward to get the tabs off the studs, then pull up, there are hooks at the top that fit into slots, make sure to get those right when you put it back.

And the seat bottoms themselves just yank right out? Or is there a method to get them to come out?

Yep, just yanks out, lift the front part up first, then pull it out.

Hey guys - I finally got around to taking out the backseat.

What a breeze! Just like you guys said.

Just pull out the butt part - undo 2 nuts - and slide out the seat.

Thanks again for the pointers!

Just wanted to confirm that the rear seat bottoms in an '04 Chevy Impala are supposed to come out by lifting up on the front of the seat and then pulling them out? How hard must one pull up? Have been attempting that to recover an ipod that slipped down behind the cushion but cannot get the seat to budge.

Very easy.. once you pull up an the front comes loose, then just pull the seat up and towards you, make sure the seat belt buckles are not in the way...

Seat comes out exactly like I described above. You need to pull the trim pieces from the sides of the back window to get the rear deck out, there may be a couple trim clips holding it down as well.
