3.5mm AUX + Stock Radio

I have a 2004 Base Impala and my radio does NOT have a 3.5 mm AUX jack.

If possible, I would like to get a radio from a more recent impala that does have an aux jack so that I can feed an external source into my radio.

I want to avoid installing an after market head unit because I occasionally have to park my car in areas where it is likely that someone would smash the window and try to steal it. I don't want to deal with the threat of smashed windows, destroyed dashboards, and stolen radios.

TL;DR: Will a radio from an 8th Gen Impala swap into my 2004. IE: Same connectors/harness/mounting.

Yeah your best bet is to install the jack yourself, no new headunit is needed. And all in all itll probablly end up being cheaper that way.

This may be what cap89 is directing you to (i didnt look), but there also a hookup that you can install that will connect to your ipod, and allow you to control it using your car radio buttons... so the volume knob on the radio would control the ipod output volume, etc.

Im not sure on this, and someone please correct me if Im wrong, but I dont think the radios would be a direct swap. The new radios are XM ready, which the older ones werent, so there has to be some difference in the wiring.

Thanks, the iSimple looks like it would serve my purposes well.

On another note, it would be neat to trace the signal path inside the radio and solder on RCA pre-outs for an external amplifier. This would allow for a clean signal versus the distortion that would be introduced by using a line output converter. I know that something like this has been done on other vehicles as the result of some ambitious do-it-yourself work from those well versed in electronics. Is anyone familiar with a thread about DIY modding GM radios with pre-outs?
