Fuel Pump or Fuel Pressure Regulator?

2000 Impala with 3.8 - no modifications done. It is having a hard time starting after being warmed up. Cold start in the morning and it will start and take right off. If you drive to the store and run in and come back out in 20 min it will try to start the first time and die and then will start fine with the 2nd crank. I measured the Fuel Pressure and it showed 40psi in the on position and at idle. It would jump up to 45psi if you step on the gas and then come back down to 40. Is this pressure to low? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Xlr8r

i don't know about the pressure levels exactly, but my car exhibited similar symptoms right before the fuel pump died. it happened to me about two weeks ago, it was kind of a miserable couple of days for me. died in the middle of an intersection near a highway.

yep thats a tad low according to the manual i got for my 01 ls, should be about fifty with the key in the on possition
but there is good news, not sure if your aware but you just might have an access panel in your trunk under the carpet and close to the back seat, changing it that way is a breeze
just make sure the fuel pump you buy has the wiring harness included cuz your new pump is probably not gonna like one of your electical plugs and it will need to be changed.
mine came with ferule connectors just cut strip crimp and go.

What brand Fuel Pump should I get to replace it? I was going to buy a Bosch, but I'm not familiar with their fuel pumps. I seem to always have bad luck with AC Delco replacement ones...I don't know how many of them I have replaced in my truck...

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

I went with a spectra premium the first time but it did not come with a wiring harness, sooooo i went and bought another one that had the harness. not sure of the brand at the moment.
if you can find a wiring harness i would sell you my extra spectra pump for $60. bucks
as long as you have a paypal account. i paid $180. bucks for it but your gonna need that harness.
