Gas filling problems

Hi all,
My 01 impala had problems filling up with gas. I could barely get it to take any awhile back, and I cleaned out the foam filter attatched to the filler neck. After that it seemed to work just fine, I had no problems filling up or anything. Now, the car will only allow me to pump around 6 gallons no matter what, and my buddy thought it could be the syphoning ball. Anyone know how to fix this? The car about died from being out of gas, and it would only take 6 gallons, and acted like it was full. Thanks for any help or advice you can give.

Is the fuel indicator on the instrument panel indicating full? And do you have a check engine light?

Hi,
The gas gauge always reads full wether it is or it isnt. And the low fuel light comes on for no reason at all all the time. What would cause this?

My 2003 Impala first started over filling, did that about three times, and then after that I couldn't pump more than about a gallon and a half at a time. Took it to Carx, they told me it was a valve somewhere in the line stuck open, paid 80 for them to plug in the damn computer and diagnosis it and then another 150 to replace the piece, didn't fix it. I called my dad's friend who worked at a college teaching the shop, he called around to some people who worked at a Chevy dealership, find out that the valve that was really the problem couldnn't be replaced it was inside the gas tank, the tank itself had to replaced.

I suggest if you haven't gotten it fixed or still having issues, get a comp plugged in and then call the dealers services themselves asking about any valve it tells you. See what they say. I got a gas tank from the junk yard for $50 otherwise $800 for brand new not including replacement. Surprisingly the fuel pump inside was better then the one I already had and never had a problem again
