Very dim mileage/gear select light??

As it says the mileage /gear select light at the bottom of the cluster has gotten to be VERY dim, so much so that during the day I cant even read it. The other indicator lights of the same color, overhead console and stereo, which all respond to the dimmer when I turn the knob seem just fine. Any ideas why the one in question would be so dim? Thanks for any ideas.
Ken.
BTW, I checked to make sure the light sensor on top of the dash is indeed clean and unobstructed.

My guess is that it's just "getting old" and getting dimmer and dimmer as time goes on. Will probably need to replace the cluster, I'm guessing (which means getting the new cluster programmed with your mileage, etc).

Just a guess though. I don't think that there is an easy way to replace the "light source" like you can with the cluster backlighting.

Could also be the solder joints that hold the odometer to the circuit board have failed/cracked. It would be worth trying to reflow the solder before going with a new cluster.
