how hard is it to change my power steering pump

So yesterday day I had the wheel cut to the left, and gave it gas to do a u turn but drifted at the same time. When I got home I noticed oil everywhere. IT is definitely coming from the power steering pump but can't tell if it's coming from the pressure lines or the pump itself. I'm going to do this project tomorrow (change power steering pump/pressure lines ) but is there any tricks to do this as easy as possible? I have changed them before but never on this car. All help is appreciated

I thought I was going to need to change my out last week because the power assist would go away once in awhile but I ended up flushing the system and now all is good again. Sorry i'm of no help as I just recently purchased my 96 SS last month but I see that you're local to me and thought i'd drop you a line. I do have the puller required to remove the pulley though if you need help doing so.

A thanks a lot bro! I just got the pully tool yesterday and the power steering pump. It is definitely leaking from the pump. When you turn the wheel, the pump will literally squirt behind the pully. I'm located in hayward in the east bay, you?

Glad you found a puller (proper puller I hope). Sounds like either the front pump seal came out or just finally failed.

I'm in Fremont.

Thanks for the offer bro! I did the job this afternoon BUT WHAT A PAIN IT WAS i will never do it again!! There is like no space in that engine compartment to do this job! it was like taking apart a puzzle then putting the puzzle back together. I dont even have a chiltons manual for my car but i got the job done and it works great

it took me about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to do the job. It's definitely not like working on my 5.0

I just bought a set of factory service manuals for my 1996 Impala. I opted for a brand new set rather than some old greasy tore up set and I paid $127 delivered. It would be your best money spent to get yourself a set (either new or used) for future reference/work needed.

4x4 fsm question

Where did you buy your fsm's from. Just got my 96 from my brother as a gift but I need to put a fair amount of elbow grease into it. I figures a good or the best fsm makes the process easier and definitely much less cursing in the process.

Thanks!

I bought mine off e-bay. I just looked and ATM there are no new sets listed but here's a good looking used set. 1996 CAPRICE IMPALA SS ROADMASTER SERVICE MANUAL SET | eBay
