You wont see much gain from a cam without headers BUT at the same time if the engine is apart for the heads you could consider the cam. Thing is the rockers, studs, springs pushrods to support a cam go over your budget. So I might say headers if you can find some with that budget. Stan's headers is up there somewhere I believe.

The BBK are about all that is left in CARB approved but they are pretty much bottom of the barrel for what was offered for these. Far as I know they are the same edelcrap stuff that requires welding to install a shorty header on the passenger side.
Especially shorties I would make sure you get coated. __________________ Dwayne 96 Caprice with AI 200cc package Best et 11.5 Best MPH 116 Just another taxi |

Far as CARB legal and still available I think BBK and Hooker are your only choices.
Hooker come up higher into the engine bay so they can cause more heat damage they cost a little more but do not require welding. The BBK need welding on the cat pipe between the cat and header. I guess you need to decide which you think you will like better. The Hooker are a larger primary, same size as the SLPs and those were the "good" shorty, like I said though they come up higher which has some disadvantages. __________________ Dwayne 96 Caprice with AI 200cc package Best et 11.5 Best MPH 116 Just another taxi |

wrap is a bad idea, can hold oil and such and cooks the headers underneath

Tape will completely destroy your headers, probably within a couple years, don't do it.
