one point seems to be over looked is" torque" people always talk hp but tq is what moves these beast the size of rhode island, if u look at the tbi specs for these cars or even the lt1 ss u see the tq curve comes in at a low rpm, compare to a 350 in a camaro or vette , truck to iirc ,dont need a hi rpm motor to get u there cause you'll need to gear the piss out of it, not worth it for a around town driver ,and then theres so many other things that need to changed and upgraded.
you could change the gear ratio in the rear but with a 7.5 ur limited to the carrier size, 342 would be a nice gear if they fit that carrier,

Not worth trying to upgrade the 7.5 carrier, just replace with an 8.5 and you'll have all the options in the world. As for torque, the 305 is gonna have far less than the 350. The way I see it, anyone who thinks using a 305 is "unique" doesn't know shit about cars. Besides, uniqueness should be in styling, powertrain should be whatever is best.

Depends on the currents... Really though, if you're planning on spending the money, might as well get the most out of it.

Actually the 305 probably would make a good boat anchor but thats all.
Seriously sinking $$$ into one is stupid when a 350 crate engine will give you the HP and torque you want.

This is alil gay..If you don't follow the leader you know nothing about cars? I have no intent to race my car? AT ALL, I plan on buying a Monte Carlo and hooking that up for that purpose my Caprice is my cruiser and family car, so I see no point in buying a 350, but if I one day choose to the things I plan on getting all seems to swap over anyways, so where's the lost?

What ever makes you happy , all we did was show you practical options.
I'm not racing my car either but will definitely put a 350 in this year.

Its just that spending that money on a 305 is wasting money, yes the parts will be compatible with a 350, but you don't want to swap used parts unless its external. If you want more power, then I don't understand wanting to use the 305...

Hey my 305 runs like a top too but at 29 years old it could get sick any day. It's too underpowered and theres no way I'm going to sink any money into it. When I put the new 350 in it will be practically a brand new car with decent power. Good luck to ya

The 305 isn't a bad motor, of course it will run great. It's just far less motor in the same package.
