Oil change indicator light

My oil change light came on. Its only been like 2300 miles since last change, should I change the oil now, or drive those 700 miles b4 i change it?

How does the car "know" when to change the oil anyways?

did you remember to reset your oil life system ?, when doing last oil change.?.. these are really good systems.. some guys i know saved oil sample, from oil change / sent away for analysis, were right on with the gm numbers.!!!.. rkvette

did you check and make sure the oil was at the right fluid level? and what type of oil are you using.. ?

I have a 95 caprice classic as well and the "low oil level" light comes on every other time I start the car, but the oil level is fine and new

The oil life monitor does NOT in anyway monitor actual oil condition. It is completely dependent on you manually resetting it when the oil is changed and then it monitors driving conditions. It will come on sooner if it is cold started a lot, stop and go a lot etc.

Reset it by turning the key to on but not starting the car and flooring the gas pedal I believe 3 times.

dwaynes correct push it to the floor 3 times wtih the key in on position but the car not on
