Newbie wagon questions

Whats up everyone? OK ive been wanting a caprice wagon since 94 when i first saw a bagged one at a race. Im in the market in AZ. Have found a few clean low mile 91s, 92s ,but really wana go with a 94-96 with the LT1 for sure. Have found a few with 150k+ miles kinda want a cleaner grocery getter to start out with. All the high mileage ones are raggy but found a 94 with 180K miles for 2500.00. rebuilt motor tranny and rear 40k ago.

Just looking for some input on what to look for as I am shopping this weekend.

Also, Where is the best source for roll pans grills shave kits etc? Ebay seems kinda scarce ive been looking for a few days cant find a good source. Also a few links would be killer.

Thanks!

Cool Wagon Questions

I talked to my Brother and there is a place in Phonix that has a lot of B-Body
cars.
Keep a look out for a Blue Caprice with GS 9C1 plate my friend Scott he knows about the yard that has the b-body wagons.

Check Craigs list also..

There is an Impala Club that is at the Pavillions Mall on Saturday nights for the cruise night there.

Here is the web site www.azisso.com

Her, thanks for the heads up! I will definatly check it out.

Yes i bought it. its a 95RM 127k miles original :frown:
Guy was asking 5k, he previously listed it for 5500. I got to negotiating and offered 3500. Agreed 4 grand. He wouldnt go any lower trust me i worked him
Its in pretty good shape overall. I pretty much bought it for the interior cause its the cleanest ive seen so far, and it was already dropped with spindals up and coils back. And 18" wheels. I kinda want to go bigger with the wheels but I like the crager ss wheels. I think they go up to 18?

I took off the moulding and cleaned it up a bit. I wana paint it eventually just wana get it presentable and mech sound. Got a oil leak already:frown:

So where are the pics???

And just an FYI, no one makes a smooth bumper for the RMW's. You could change to a chevy grill though and make one work. I have "AllDayCustoms" smoothie bumper on my SS and for the price, you can't beat them. They were like $350 shipped for the pair on eBay...

You *can* go the Chevy-grill-and-bumper route or you can mod up a bumper and/or grill yourself. (It's getting to be quite the trend for RMW owners nowadays .)

Congrats on the new wagon.

(Once you go with a Caprice/Impala grill there are a wealth of sources for nice bumpers for you.)

Here Ya go!

Thanks!

Yes i am going to do a new front bumper. It has a stock buick grill. Not sure what you mean by changing out the grill? Are the chevy bumpers different than the Buicks? I found a few in ebay impala store section not sure if i like the look of em tho? One has square fog lamp holes and it looked really dorky. They also had a better looking one with round holes on the bottom i liked better but they both look kinda bulky.

What is the best thing to do with the front bumper? go with the Chevy bumper?

Also, can anybody tell me if my rear bumper is a oem gm? all the ones i have seen stick out alot. Mine looks like a rollpan but not sure?

The cars in pretty decent shape. Not sure if i paid too much or not. the interior is clean, headliners perfect. The rims got afew scuffs in em and right rear pass. doors dented cause the guys wife drove it alot:mad::frown:

It needs a little body work. Sux cuz the paints in good shape, but I know once I delete the paneling its got to go to paint. I want to pick out a new front bumper and shave the rest of trim before i paint it. Im in no hurry, this is my second vehicle to tinker with. Really dont want to dump too much money into it but once I get going on a project theres no end.

Anyway, here are some pix. Hope I do this rite!

Bumper help>

2many, thanks! Like I was saying the body isnt perfect so I know I am going to ready it for paint. Thing that sucks is I really wanted to go black cuz they look so sick, but really dont want to do color change!! Really dont want to do a 5k paint job on it. Want to go more budget. Probably redo it in a pearl white with some ghost fames or something to break up the all white.

OK now you got me going bout the front bumper. Ive been searching ebay but not sure what you mean by the SS bumper.

So any caprice front bumper will fit? just got to change the grill?

Please fill me in cuz i think the stock bumpers ugly, and its not in perfect conditon either. I dont like the Stainless trim on it either cuz eventually the whole cars gona get shaved handles and all.

I saw a few pixs of some wagons with the fuel fill in the left rear D pillar at the back. Is that a chevy thing? or custom?

Do you got any links to the bumpers that will fit? I couldnt find all day customer on ebay?

The Caprice/SS bumper is straight across the top. The RMW dips down about an inch to make room for the taller grille.

Here's a couple pics where you can see my smoothie:

Are you gonna keep the wood? I think White woodies look great, especially while keeping the "chrome" belt line trim. You could try removing the black rubber moldings and polishing it all for a different look. It really smooths out the lines and looks pretty killer.

Thats a very nice ride you got there. I debated doing a 9C1 but always wanted a wagon. I think its cuz its so out of the norm in custom cars.

Well,,, I already stripped off the original moulding trim and trimmed off the nipples that hold it on. I really like that car shaved cuz it has pretty sick lines for a wagon i think. The orig moulding border was peeling bad and didnt wana take the time to strip it. has some dings and a bunch of glue and discoloration from the glue on the SS panels do i ditched it.

For the time being im going to keep the paneling. I retrimmed the transition between paint and vynal with some 3/4 chrome moulding from checker. Its kinda ghetto but will work with the woody scheme now til i decide what im doing with color and graphics.

I see what your saying bout the bumper, looks much better. I really didnt want to put a body kit bumper on it its just to import looking. The car has a fiberglass hood with the stock buick grill i dont like anyways. It looks like the grills the same size but the caprice bumper adds the depth with popout under the head light. So I could use an SS grill with that bumper. I like it.

Also,
Does anybody know if you have to take out the wheel house to replace the power antenna in these cars? I read some thread said to take out the engine liner? NOT.

I guess you've figured it out by now but yes, that's a roll pan on the back ~ I like :)

I partially "de-wooded" my woody and trim [well, 1 side anyway] for a custom paint scheme. I saved most of the trim in case anyone needs a piece down the road.

This is my theme ~ it's just started and I've got a lot to do still.

I was going to sell it but it looks like the deal on the other wagon I had my eye on [Ford Fox chassis Fairmont wagon] is going to fall through unexpectedly :( I don't mind finishing the B body but it's aggravating the seller was less than truthful but I'm glad I found out now before shipping it then finding out.
