The G8 was a rebadged VE Holden Commodore, the SS is based on the current VF Holden Commodore. And it's also around $10k cheaper in the US than the equivalent spec VF in Australia.

Well fyi "Holden" is a GM company based in Australia.
Therefore, your statements about it being a "Holden" with a Chevy sticker on it is a mute point. That's like comparing Olds to Chevy to Pontiac... Same dang thing!

Anyways, I took some pics of the SS @ my favorite Chevy dealer.

P.S.
That (OLD) guy in the green shirt w/ his wife (purple shirt) had just paid $49K CASH for that white ZL1 next to the SS.

They were waiting for the car to be pulled out of the showroom while I was taking these.
I even asked "Why the Camaro over the 4 door SS?" he said "No kids! and Supercharger!" I was like "Right, right..."

Point taken I guess being a New Zealander my opinion is maybe a little different, and here's why:

Holden Australia isn't just another division in GM North America sharing the same platforms. Holden has also been doing its own thing for a long time (as have Ford Australia).

More recently and until the VE rolled off the line, Holden had been importing Opel bodies since the late 80s and modifying them to make them larger and imported the Buick 3800 (phased out in the VZ model preceding the VE for the high feature alloy 3.6L V6) and GM V8 engines. There was even one model, the VL ('86 - '88) before that which had a Nissan straight 6 OHC engine - RB30E and RB30ET (Turbo option).

The Zeta platform starting with the VE was designed from scratch in Australia. The Zeta platform was designed from the outset for being exported to other markets and re-badged and trimmed as needed - the Chevy SS a very nice result of that of that program.

I wonder why they didn't use a Direct Injection V8 in this car? With a 6.2L V8, 415HP is not all that impressive, in my opinion. If they would have used a DI VVT V8, I would think that the HP would be MUCH higher.

Thats assuming that they actually make a DI VVT V8?

If my wimpy 3.6L V6 makes 300HP, a monster 6.2L V8 should make much more than 415HP! I'm assuming the difference is because of the DI and VVT in the 3.6L?
