Just bought a 03 impala, had been sitting 2 years. Had a loud knocking in the engine when cranked for the first time. Changed oil and added STP oil treatment. Knocking is almost gone, now just a slight ticking when car is idling, when you give it gas, it gets louder and sounds more like an engine knock. Has a 3.8 L in it. Appears to be no oil in valve cover with engine running. Low oil pressure light came on once, but hasn't come back on since oil change. Changed out gas and added Mystery Oil thinking it might be a problem caused by the old fuel in it. Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Ensure you used the correct viscosity oil and that the oil level is correct. Did you use an AC Delco oil filter or an aftermarket (use AC Delco)?l. Change the PCV valve, two oil rings (under the black plastic fitting on the passenger side of the engine) and the fitting. GM makes a "kit" that is very inexpensive that includes the valve, two o-rings, and the black plastic housing / fitting. Be careful when removing the MAP sensor from the top of the fitting / housing.
We used an aftermarket oil filter, so we will swap that out with an AC Delco one. I will get the kit and put it on and see if that helps get rid of the ticking noise. Thank you.
no oil in the valve cover ? when warmed up and you take the oil fill cap off does a lot of smoke pour out? probably just a bad hydraulic lifter. why was the car parked for 2 years ......... bad hydraulic lifter ?
