08 Impala CD Player Trouble

OK, so my stock CD player is acting up. It will play a CD (either purchased or burned) for about a track and a half up to 3 tracks and quit. Sometimes it will restart the last track if you go to the beginning, but ultimately says Disc Error and won't even eject. If you listen to the radio for about 10 mins, it will eject like normal. Any advice on the issue? I only have 24K miles on it.

Deuces,

When you buy music be careful not to buy discs that were meant to be played on a different format. Some european discs were not meant to be played on USA format discs.

If you burn your own music for sure the issue is a disc formatting issue. Make sure you have choosen the right version. Make sure you don't buy blank discs that are double layered or double sided. Sometimes depending on the brand the laser can read the other side.

Good luck,

Durango

Sorry to hear that, Deuces! According to your Owners Manual (page 3-79):

"CHECK DISC: If an error message displays and/or the
CD comes out, it could be for one of the following reasons:
• It is very hot. When the temperature returns to
normal, the CD should play.
• You are driving on a very rough road. When the road
becomes smoother, the CD should play.
• The CD is dirty, scratched, wet, or upside down.
• The air is very humid. If so, wait about an hour and
try again.
• There could have been a problem while burning
the CD.
• The label could be caught in the CD player."

Are there certain CDs that have been working fine? If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannot be corrected, we definitely suggest contacting your dealer/retailer. And please feel free to send me a DM anytime for further assistance!

Best,

Katie

The "disc error" message is common to GM products when the laser assembly starts to fail. It generally just means it is time for repair or replacement.

Even though you have low miles, the radio is still about 5 years old and a car is a harsh environment for electronics.

I'd put my money on a wrong formatted disc or the cd eye inside is dirty. Buy a cd player cleaner disc and see what happens. Hope that helps. Process of elimination. Start with the cheapest. Try a new disc that you recently purchased that is not burned. If that doesn't work, then go to the cleaning kit.

Gonna try the cleaning kit. Thanks for the input. I don't listen to CDs much, but had a couple I bought and burned recently. Neither worked. I may check out that radio for sale if this don't work. Thanks again!
