2012 Impala Backup Camera
Hello All,
I recently installed a GM Nav Radio in my newly purchased 2012 Chevy Impala. The Impala does have a bose system. What I would like to know is if anyone has a recommendation for a backup camera? I'm assuming the GM camera's would just plug right into the back of the radio but I don't know. Does anyone have some insight into this? |

Only comment is that HU looks great, nice job. As to the camera, I would not bother, as GMs older style backup cameras (which you would need I assume), suck IMO. Try one from another make and you will see what I mean. Just not worth the effort for a semi distorted grainy smallish screen. I thought they were decent until I drove other makes with backup cameras. Now my neighbor's 2010 Suburban LTZ camera looks awful to me.
Not trying to rain on your parade, as the headunit looks phenomenol! __________________ 2009 Impala SS (sold 3/2012); 2010 Buick Enclave CXL; 2010 Lincoln MKS AWD Twin Turbo, Livernois Motor Sports tuned, Airaid CAI, 0-60 in 4.47 seconds "Trying Times Are Not a Good Time To Quit Trying" |

Thanks, no problem. I'll be honest with you I'm more looking for simplicity of hookup rather than quality of camera. I've driven commercial vehicles so I'm not one of those that even turns my head when I back up, I use my mirrors. So I wouldn't really even utilizing the camera, I'd just like something to pop up on the screen since now all that shows when the vehicle is in reverse is a black blank screen.

^^ Gotcha, I actually get that. I only use my backup camera when backing into a parking space, mostly for making sure I am straight and for getting close to the vehicle behind me. The rear sensors only beep, but don't give me a visual on distance. I use the camera for that. If I ever back into anything, with rear parkings beeping at me sensors and a rear camera, I should have my license taken away......
It's my understanding the hook up is straight forward. Mounting the camera and running the wiring is the labor intensive, but not overly complicated part. Lots of guys on my Escalade forum did this conversion with the 07+ Lades that did not originally come with factory NAV. I will see if I can find something over there for you on hookup.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it. I was on the phone with my gm guy to see if he could figure out where the camera's plug in with the vehicles that do offer them. Do they plug directly into the back of the radio? Into the PCM? Into another harness somewhere in the body electrical? Like I said, it's not make or break if I have it or not, but since the radio has the feature, I just prefer it work.

I have not found what you asked for yet, but did find this, and know you need it! It is a way to unlock NAV in motion for five bucks. I had planned to do this, but ended up getting rid of my truck early. I am assuming you installed a late model GM SUV Head Unit, correct (Tahoe/Yukon/Escalde)?
Nav-xm unlock $5.00 and one hour Still not what I was thinking of, but here is something. The thread I was looking for, which was picture intensive, has been deleted. :( https://www.google.com/url?q=http://...n3_wyEIKkX7kTA __________________ 2009 Impala SS (sold 3/2012); 2010 Buick Enclave CXL; 2010 Lincoln MKS AWD Twin Turbo, Livernois Motor Sports tuned, Airaid CAI, 0-60 in 4.47 seconds "Trying Times Are Not a Good Time To Quit Trying" Last edited by TSS; 07-12-2012 at 09:59 AM.. |

I will look into that, thanks again.
I did find this link: OEM Reverse Back-up Camera (Full Parts List) - Chevrolet Forum - Chevy Enthusiasts Forums I don't know if anything has changed since this, but it seems pricey to do. |
