More 12.7" Brake Info

Yo guys

I've mentioned before the ability to upgrade to 12.7" brakes using calipers/pads/rotors from a 2006+ Cadillac DTS JL9 brake code. These also came on 2007 Cadillac CTS Sport models, 06+ Lucerne with the 4.6 Northstar only, 08-09 Allure/LaCrosse Super with the 5.3 LS4.

In doing more research, I hadn't noticed before but the pads are the same as the 06+ Impala, which means it's likely the calipers are same and the bracket makes up the size difference. This means, in order to upgrade, you may simply need to buy the caliper brackets and rotors.

Also, these brakes are equipped on the 2012-2013 Impala Police and Taxi setup. I know that some of you will be more likely to try this upgrade knowing that they're now Impala brakes and not just Cadillac brackets

So again to recap:
-The "Cadillac" 12.7" brakes may now be referred to as "2012 Impala Police brakes"
-The 12.7" "2012 Impala Police brakes" use the same brake pad as the 11.9" brakes found on all other 2006+ Impalas
-You may, and someone should verify this, be able to make the upgrade by simply buying the brake caliper brackets rather than the whole caliper assembley. A1 Cardone reman brackets can be bought from rockauto using p/n 141123 for a whopping $22.66 each (2 required)

any upgrade on the rear brakes? (bigger rotor or caliper that can be change)

looks like the 06-11 calipers(25983765, 15251788) are the same for all civilian v6 applications. but the police 12-13 is a different caliper, 25983763, 25983762. the police pads are also different from 06-13 civilian cars and are part number 19207421 for all years 06-13. the police caliper bracket for 12-13 is different too and it is 25983766. the knuckle and lower control arm/bushings are different on the police cars and may factor into this conversion. brake rotors are the same for all civilian and police cars, all years, 06-13, 20879454. I'm getting all this from the 226 page parts manual for the impala.

To convert, I think you'll need police brake calipers plus brackets, and pads. How all that matches up with the knuckle and lower control arms is not known. the master cylinder is the same on 12 civilian and police models. this conversion can probably can be done but someone is going to have to get the parts and try putting it together.

Good to know. Googling it comes up with around $40 per bracket, not that much of a premium over the reman Cardone bracket.

Don't know how the knuckle differs from the civilian version. I've been meaning to order the police LCA to inspect. The LCA hockey puck is specced different for police, I do know that much.

I installed these 12.7" brakes on my 2001 Buick Regal, which during its refresh project got 2009 Impala (civilian) knuckles and LCAs. These brakes do fit 100% and are completely bolt on with the complete caliper retrofit. Would still love to confirm whether just the bracket does the job but it'll take someone who actually wants to do the swap to find out for us.

caliper number does not include the bracket which is a separate number, at least in this parts manual.


12-13 police rotors are 25983739

yeah, I see now that the 12 police has a different rotor than the 12 civilian cars but its 20879455 in this parts manual. I looked up 25983739 on gmparts direct and it does show as a police rotor. why its not in the parts manual is a mystery but kinda throws into question everything else in the manual. I have a 2012 police car vin and tried to look it up that way but couldn't get a connection between the vin and 25983739.

the rear brake of 06+ Lucerne with the 4.6 Northstar are the same as the impala? or it got a different size? can they fit on a impala?

What size are the front GXP brakes? If they're the same size as these, I'll do this instead when I get the cash. (that'll be a while)
Second, if you did this, and left the rear brakes stock, wouldn't you need a brake-bias controller to make up for the bigger fronts?

You shouldn't need to add it . The front rotors stock are 303mm, rear 277.7mm. There is already a difference in sizes. 25.3mm or 0.996063 inches, Ie: almost an inch. It is just close to another inch bigger 323mm roughly.

The GXP brakes are also listed as 323mm...
although it would be less of an upgrade since the rears do not play as big of a part, the rear GXP brakes are 305mm vs Impala 277.7mm... Food for thought...

If you want to try the yet uncomfirmed but extreme likelihood that swapping the brackets will allow you to use the 12.7" rotors, here's what you need:

2 of Caliper Brackets for 2006+ Cadillac DTS, 2012-13 Impala Police etc
GM p/n 25983766 for new (~$40 each when googled) or
Cardone 141123 for reman ($18 each through Rock Auto)

2006+ Impala brake pads (same pads used in DTS etc)
My recommended pad: Raybestos ATD1159P Police pads

2 of 12.7" brake rotors for 2006+ Cadillac DTS, 2012-13 Impala Police etc
My recommended rotor: Raybestos Advanced Tech 580387

If I punch the Cardone brackets and the Raybestos pads/rotors into Rock Auto, with shipping to a Buffalo NY zip, it all comes in right at $250.

They also sell Power Stop pads/rotors kits for $110-160, just look under a 2007 Cadillac DTS. I hear decent things about Power Stop pads though I would still prefer Raybestos due to positive past experience. The cheapest Power Stop kit with Cardone brackets comes in at $180 shipped to the same zip.

Pretty awesome upgrade for the price!

The powerstop pads only last about half the mileage of the raybestos, but I have heard good things about the rotors. We get about 25k out of a set of powerstop pads, but usually 45k or so with the raybestos.
