need a radiator for my 06 SS advise please
Bought an 06 Chevy Impala SS about two weeks ago with just over 100K on it and yesterday it ran hot twice and cooled down, I babied it home and water was leaking out of the radiator... If it needs replacing, is there an oversized one avail. that i can put back in it? My funds are limited, I can get a great discount from the "box" part houses.... would an aftermarket one work well for me here? the tranny is shifting a little rough, but now the radiator is a bigger problem. I'm new here and really could use some advise. havent taken it anywhere yet, going to pull the codes and see what they are. The oil had just been changed, display said 98% until it ran hot.. now it says change oil.... any thoughts appreciated Thanks !!!!

I see you're from SC, are you anywhere near Charleston? I have a buddy here in town that is an amazing mechanic and I know he'd fix you up without raping you on the cost.

found out it is the water pump gone bad. still interested in replacing the radiator if I can find a better one that came with it. that would cool the motor and tranny better.... should I replace the thermostat at the same time replacing the water pump?
thanks for your help guys!!! |

Yes, replacing the thermostat is a good idea. I thought you said the radiator was leaking? Did you just think it was, and it was really just the water pump? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't know if there are oversized radiators available, but that's never really been an issue with these cars.

was the water pump all along... new one cost 40.00 off of e bay... plus antifreeze paid the mech 60.00 to install... didnt flush it... they wanted 50.00 extra for a flush... just going to roll the dice.... so far everything ok......

I wouldn't worry about it if the coolant looks ok, they still would do a drain and fill when changing the pump. That is usually plenty.
