We have a 2007 Impala. Three of the actuators have been ticking... one at a time for a short time and then cut off. Then after the engine is shut off one would tick again for a short time and cut off. However now, after this happens, the engine shut off, all ticking stops.... one ticking will start again, and then you can hear the blend doors adjusting (as though you've turned an adjustment knob) on it's own, and the other two will start ticking again. We realize we need to replace the actuators, however our concern is that these adjust themselves when the car is not running.... and I thinking causing my battery to run down. Last night I tried an experiment and pulled the AIRBAG/DISPLAY (HVAC Control module) fuse to get it to stop and not mess with my battery. HOWEVER that DID NOT make it stop. after a period of 5-10 minutes, the cycle would start again. Occasionally it seemed as though it would only start when we opened a door to the car (weird right????) (I thought coincidental but who knows?)... This car seems possessed. What could be powering these actuators to keep running with the ignition off. Oh by the way the rotation does not continue during the engine running unless you change something... only starts again when the engine is shut off. We are afraid that just changing the actuators will not stop the battery drain. Please help us find the power source.
The ticking started years ago but we decided it was tolerable until now. Last September our battery died. We replaced it but then a snowball of other problems started because a mouse had made a nest out of our wiring harness and caused our body control module to short out which after being replaced by a neighborhood great mechanic... had to be taken to a dealership for reprogramming of the brake lights, the air bag sensors, the cruise control, the radio... and many other things that the dealership found to do (grrr) besides related to this problem. I had been noticing my battery dragging... but then of course after running a while... didn't seem to be a problem. Thank God my alternator and battery have been working right!! But yesterday it dragged again... so we went to get them checked out and both tested fine. When we got home my husband cleaned the battery terminals to ensure continued good connection. With the job done, the engine off, and we cleaning in the garage.... all three of the actuators started on their own, in rotation as described above.
