Ticking/Knocking Noise

I notice a couple days a go a slight ticking noise coming from the bay (09 Impala LT 3.5L). Yesterday I checked the oil level on the dipstick and it was on the second circle from the bottom of the dipstick (I got a oil change 2 weeks ago from the dealership and notice the oil is dark), so I added 2 quarts of oil. Then today (about an hour ago) I notice that the ticking got louder so decided to make a quick sound clip and here it's:

Anyone know what could it be, and what should I do?

When the oil on the dip stick is on the add line that meens that one quart is needed. Check the oil to make sure that it's on the full line. The oil color will vary from brand to brand. The tick i hear is a sound of a crank shaft will make as it splashes in a over full oil sump (pan). Just a though to look at.

Jd1, I would also recommend a trip back to your dealership for service! If you need further assistance at any point, I'm just a direct message away.

Best,

Katie

I think you misunderstood the advice. Drain your oil and fill it properly. You put too much oil in when you added 2 quarts and now the crank is hitting the oil.

Well just about two hours ago leaving my job my Impala engine seized up.

I was driving down the road around 20 mph when my car shut off everything locked up and wouldn't turn over. Call AAA and got it tow to my local Chevy Dealer.

I would have waited for the engine to cool down to test it again. It's likely your engine shut down to prevent blowing seals. Having too much oil is as dangerous to a vehicle as not having enough. If you are lucky it shut down to prevent damage.

I did change the oil the next day and the ticking was still there..... I did had the hood open for two hours while waiting for the tow truck to come and when he came he tried turning it over and didn't do anything.

Hmm, it's likely not a seized motor (we hope!). Will you find anything out today?

Hopefully not, cause way before I put anything in there it already was ticking. When I checked it it was low on fluid when I added the rest of it the dipstick was at the fourth circle where it should be. Since I was told I "over" did it I change the fluid less then 24 hours later and the ticking was there and getting worse until last night when just die.
