Another transmission issue.

I'm new and was referred to this site to find info. 2009 SS. When pulling out from a dead stop, if I get on it a little to get into traffic or ahead of oncoming traffic, sometimes the car stays in 1st and won't shift. I let off the gas some to coax it into shifting and it drops out of gear. I know this due to the RPMs going up when I get back on the gas and not accelerating. I then let off the gas for a couple seconds and then the car shifts into 2nd. If it does that while I am trying to pull into traffic, I may end up smashed. If I get on it hard to pull out, it goes fine until it hits what appears to be a rev limiter and then I have nothing like the governor is engaged. It isn't smooth either. I believe the no shifting part is only when the car is cold. However, it did do this one time when I was trying to pass someone. Do not recall if the car was warmed up at that time. Can anyone help?

Take your car straight to the dealership. Sounds like you've got a bad tranny.

You might have some tranny slip, but take it in just in case.

Now if you pull out hard with the T/C(traction control) on then yes its going to kick and buck when you spin the tires. That lets you know it doing its job. Also if you're trying to make a left/right turn and power into it, it will also kick "bog" down.

Also about when you were passing someone and it felt like it didn't shift: If you were out of the power band then it won't respond with a hard downshift and a burst of power.

Took it to the dealer. They "couldn't duplicate the problem". My brother picked the car up and got it to do it with a mechanic riding with him.

It's not bucking. It just refuses to shift into second until I let off the gas for a couple seconds. If I let up and get on it in less than 2 seconds, it's out of gear and the RPMs go up. What's the point of having all that power if you can't use it?

So the dealer tells me that it's normal for the transmission to drop out of gear when it's cold to protect the transmission.

Get it in writing with the Service persons name, so if you tranny messes up on you they are liable.

Personally, I'd take it to another dealer.

I have been to 2 different dealers in 2 different cities. Both make the same claim, they can't get it to do it and it's normal. If it's normal, it's a mistake. It's dangerous to pull into traffic and the car drop out of gear. My mechanic (independent) suggests I add a little fluid to see if it clears up. Maybe I'll check with my neighbor who worked at another GM dealer before moving to Mercedes.

That is definitely not normal. My '09 LTZ shifts up crisply and downshifts without any hesitation even with slight throttle input.

I have test driven cars like 2006 Crown Victoria with the sport package and the car was reluctant to downshift when the gas pedal was pressed. It hesitated for about a second before downshifting. I found this unacceptable so I did not buy the car. But not upshifting from the first gear? That seems ridiculous. You may have a faulty pressure solenoid or something in that transmission. Maybe it is acting up intermittently.

My 09 SS does not act at all like this. I had a truck, 07 Escalade that had a similar issue - the dealer reprogrammed the ECU with an update and it was all fixed. Have not heard of any TSBs though with the 09 SS.
