Just bought a 2000 Impala LS with a 3800 in it. 198000 miles. When trying to drive when the car it cold the the engine hits about 3000 rpm before the car starts moving. Doesn't matter whether it's in drive or reverse. As the the temp gauge goes up the transmission starts behaving correctly. I've never had this issue with this transmission (I had a Grand Prix that had the same tranny). Suggestions on why this is happening? :dunno:
Have you checked the transmision fluid level to ensure that it is at the proper level. Low fluid can cause low pressure which causes a delay in transmission response.
Sounds like low fluid. When the fluid heats up it expands and brings your fluid level up to an acceptable level.
