2000 LS (Transmission code)?

I registered to ask a transmission question for my fathers Impala.

We need to know what the transmission code is.
It needs to be replaced.

Upon searching I found the code : 4T65-E

But the mechanic tells me that he needs a LNB or LNN number of some sort.
I am guessing that this has to do with the gear ratio's.

Could you guide me toward my answer?
Thanks in Advance.

If memory serves me rightly, there is a tag riveted to the front of the transmission, i believe it's white (about 2" by 3", and the letters are around 3/4 of an inch high). The code should be on there.

Failing that, the code should be on the SPID (Service Parts Identification) Label. Usually on the underside of the trunk lid.

And if it's not there, try calling the GM dealer with the VIN, they should be able to shed a little more light on it for you.

Hope this was of some help.

The code is basically to tell the dealer/tech working on the vehicle what final drive ratio the transmission has.

Take a picture of the label, and post it here, if you need any more help. I wish I could run the VIN and help ya out, but I work at a Ford store, sorry.

I assume that you're putting a used trans in this car? It's a lot of work to swap these transmissions, you might want to consider having it rebuilt, as opposed to putting a used unit in. I have not had a great deal of luck with used 4t65-e's.
