Well the dreaded happened this week. Transmission blew in the SS. There are alot of 4T65-E transmissions online in my area but I have been told mine is the rarest. Why cant I use any 4T65-E HD transmission. I HAVE ONE FROM A SUPERCHARGED 01 BUICK REGAL, but was told by a transmission shop that the only vehicles that are compatible are the 04 GTP, 04 Monte Carlo SS or the 04 Impala SS. Is this just something transmission shops say to get a 1500.00 rebuild or is there any fact to it? Have looked online and couldnt find an answer. Any help would be appriciated!!! Thanks

$1500 for a rebuild isn't that bad. I would def get a list of what would be replaced though before taking the plunge.

The problem with a used transmission from a junkyard ... you never know what problems it has. Worse case scenario you have another POS transmission that needs to be rebuilt.

You will never find a beefed up "racing" transmission for $1500 lol

Only triple edge performance offers beefed up 4t65e's and they start at like $4k

Most of the wiring between the 2003 and 2004 models years changed. Well, I shouldnt say MOST, but a fair amount did and I wouldnt be too surprised if the wiring to or from the transmission didnt as well.

The 4t65e is not the same as a 4t653HD... you need the HD one and you wont likely find them online at that price.

Cool - keep us posted - seems like a good price if it has all the right HD/High performance pieces.

wow thats not bad at all. I have the 3.8 motor w/ 4t65e for my 04, its the LS tho not the SS, and they want to charge me 24-2500 for a rebuild!

I dropped my tranny and opened opened the side cover, ordered the solenoids so hopefully that will fix my issue! But yes... Good luck with it.
