Well pooo!!!

Remove this ad!
Guess monday my car is going to the shop. All started with the check engine light coming on and a funky felling between gears at WOT. Had codes read was a miss on 3 and catalytic system but before (in about weeks time) I could do tune up it started not shifting you would have to let off between gears then at driving speed 55 -70 it would start to slip from time to time if you let off you would feel it catch and resume driving. So did the ol change filter fluid and trans x but is doing the same. Was about 1/4'' of stuff on the magnet and all over the bottom of the pan. The fluid was black and had a bad smell to it. What do y'all think?? Rebuild time

Yea, its sounds like its time for a rebuild with burned fluid and metal shavings... but don’t let a shop screw you with the cost, many have posted spending 3k + on a stock rebuild once it’s all said and done.... Triple Edge Performance specializes in the 4T65E trans (the ones in the W-body’s) and does a street/strip build that includes cure kit as well as many other upgrades for $1,975.00 USD shipped to your door ($1500 build, $300 core, $175 shipping)... Many of the people who have gotten trans for there performance cars have recommended that company for the work

Of course you will have to spend another $300-$500 to have some one install it locally but even then you are still at $2,500 for a trans that can hold almost anything you can throw at it even after mods compared to a stock rebuild from some one who might do a decent job

I hear ya man but due to funding I am having to go with local shop but he came highly recommended 1300 out the door with 90 day free replacement. The price includes all work pulling and install also upgraded valve body and shift kit from transgo.

$1300 isn't bad at all for full a rebuild... hopefully it works out for you

Just remember, you get what you pay for. In the world of transmissions there are very few who can get it right. Any one of us can turn a wrench and play with motors, rear ends, electrical, body work etc.... but it takes someone with way more patience to play with transmissions. When places only think about the bottom line/dollar amount and try and rush and flat rate it then you become a warranty/statistic.

Hopefully you did your homework on this shop.

I do not and have not claimed to know everything about these cars, but by seeing a great deal of these cars daily I can usually be of some help in giving advise when a problem comes up. Feel free to ask questions

There is a place cheaper and a place that was around 1500 but every one in this area said to go to this guy. The place cheaper said they would test electronics and replace if needed the other was about 200 miles away and had a little better warranty this guy is doing a full rebuild with transgo parts and replacing all electronics. In this area things are not as high as other bigger cities and such. Gotta love the Ozarks
