If you get headers, get them ceramic coated.

Don't use heat wrap.

It'll destroy your headers.

Just ask anyone who makes headers...

FWIW, I love the Hooker cat-back with Aerochambers.

Not too loud, until you get on it, then it sounds mean, but not obnoxious loud.

The chrome tips that come in the kit are really nice too.

I'm currently running CIA's Gen I Tri-Y headers, Straight hook-Up Pipes and a catback Dynomax Ultra Flow exhaust setup. Has a very nice deep rumble, isn't loud at all in the cab and you really hear it when you stomp on it. Overall a very nice performance mod. Of course, you open the exhaust up, you will need a cold air intake setup to let more air into your throttle body. Makes a great difference on the freeway. You won't notice A huge difference on the street unless you get your PCM tuned.

Take this advice!!! Heat wrap can also hold oil and other fluids. This makes them ugly and dangerous.

For the record, I am running ceramic coated SLP Shorties, high flow cats, flowmaster 40's dumped in front of the axle. I know there are better flowing mufflers out there like spintech, etc, but I have to admit that I like the sound of these over the others.

Exhaust options for a 96 Impala SS

I have a 1996 Impala SS and have had 2 exhaust systems. I put on the Spintech cat back system with the Sportsman XL mufflers. I had a drone issue and tried a custom built Magnaflow system with a Magnaflow X pipe. It had a drone also. I tried both the 4x9x14 and the 4x9x18 Magnaflow mufflers both drone on an Impala with tail pipes past the rear bumper.

I put back on the Spintech system with Dynomax race bullet mufflers and the system sounds great and has a low drone but you can talk and listen to the CD player.

I would also look at the Pypes cat back system for the Impala SS and it is about $419 from Summit.

I plan on adding Headers, High Flow Cats in 2009 and computer tuning.

TRI Y headers are built by 2 companies Clear Image and Focuztech.

Exhaust systems for the Impala SS run from $250 for the Jegs to $1800
for the Callaway SuperNatural Impala SS system.

Best Mufflers, Hooker Aero Chambers, or Spintechs. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Than All for our application for street use.

Videos in my Signature are a good testament to sound quality of my setup. People ruin exhaust videos when they put the camera right next to the exhaust, or use low quality cell phone video..

Yes, even the single exhaust cars can use the Impala SS headers and exhaust. Depending on the year of your car, there are some changes that need to be made to the headers and a different cross member may be required, but you can go all the way to the rear of your car with Impala exhaust products. As seen above we offer a custom 3" system but there are other systems available as well. For those interested, here's a pic of the 3" stainless system with resonated tips:

And with mirror polished tips:

I bought the Jegs catback and swapped the mufflers out for magnaflows. Nice deep tone.Minimal drone. Not too loud cruising but wakes up when you get on it. I love it!
