EXCLUSIVE: The Chevy Caprice Police Car Is Back!

After a 15-year absence patrolling U.S. streets, an all-new law-enforcement-only Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) joins GM's fleet in 2011. Although it's built on the same rear-wheel-drive Camaro and dearly-departed Pontiac G8-spawning Zeta platform, it's not a G8 sedan.

Might hope to be able to buy from a auction, I have seen where limited special vehicles like these are destroyed after their service life, just to keep them out of the publics hand.

I'm a big fan of the car but as a police car, it's not a knock-out IMO.

I agree. It sounds like a badass right, but it just doesn't have me drooling like a 94-96 Caprice 9C1. Maybe it just needs to be in a dark blue, or bright red.

Give it a year of police use, they will bring it out for the public. If they are not allowed to be sold to the public afterwards, that will kill the car for GM. No police agency wants to pay that much for a car, and then not be able to resell it in 3 years after they beat the crap out of it. If GM bought them back at a fair value, they would just be losing money on this venture. I feel that is a big reason behind why Carbon's E7 will fail.

It's already April, 2010 and I'm guessing we're going to get some clarification on this soon cause it's not making much sense. How could this possibly make any sense for a police agency to commit to this car when they can do the Charger or keep the Crown Vics?

Note: Crown Vic to be replaced. http://blogs.consumerreports.org/car...rown-vic-.html

The PCV is the only vehicle crash tested at 80MPH from behind.

I like it, but will it be as big as the Crown Vic? Surely not!

As big in sales? I think it will, it is a whole special issue, outfitted for police. So, vinyl seating and flooring and custom deck & etc. will be standard. This allows for a cheaper cost to Gov. saves on middle man outfitters.

No, I meant actual size. That thing looks cramped for typical police work.

My buddy works for the NJ State Police and he got to see one in person the other week. He said they are huge, much bigger than you expect from the pics. I think the wheelbase is longer than the older chevy tahoe???

This "Caprice" was here in Los Angeles recently. Did not get much attention because it looks like ass.

I'm having a hard time with it too. I can't say I dislike it, but it's basically a Camry knock-off with RWD. I still prefer the Crown Vic for police cars...
