I've heard rumors about another possibility... some dealers are still saying there will be a RWD Impala SS in late '09. That could mean that the SS only will be built on Zeta (hopefully more that just a G8 clone). In a way, that would make sense, the beancounters keep the FWD volume seller and the enthusiast customers get the Zeta performance V8. It may not even matter, at this point, it's all just rumor-mongering.

I hope the big-wigs at Chevy start pulling their thumbs out of their asses, and start figuring out everyone wants a big 4 door rwd with power! I mean, do you know the charger sales through the roof right know!!!

They won't do it.

Except for two cars, GM has nothing I am interested in,
and those are low volume cars.

CTS V and ZR1.

A used CTS V might be in my future, but I'll never be able to afford the new ZR1.

Unfortunately guys,

I think GM is going to run itself into the ground...

yeah...nowadays american car companies seem to jump from trend to trend instead of trying to be innovative like the old days...

Just so you guys know for sure, it is not going to happen. Here's what the article says:

Due to fuel-economy issues GM has killed plans to produce a rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet Impala and a Buick based on its Zeta platform. Both cars were expected to make their debut around 2011. You can blame the Bush administration and the new federal fuel-economy rules for this one.

The rear-wheel-drive Impala was expected to be 3 inches longer than the current Impala style with a long nose. The high-performing Impala SS version was expected to carry a V8 producing 350+ horsepower and would have gone head-to-head with Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger.

Federal regulations call for a n dustry average of 35mpg by 2020.

Current U.S. models that share the rear-wheel-drive platform are the 2008 Pontiac G8 sedan and the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro. The 2010 Pontiac G8 is also expected to use the platform.

Check out February's Motor Trend. Subject is: GM's BMW fighter.
On thier website it will only show the Holden version, but in the magazine shows this pic.
By the time I pay off this Impala I'll be ready for the new model. Not a bad look..keeps some of the traditional Chevy lines without all the vanilla added. I think it's time that Chevy stepped away from the geriatric slab side designs and go back to their early '60s to early '70s 'got the meat' heritage. Only this time push performance without compromising efficiency!

That is one nasty looking ride!~

i completly agree, Chevy should pull their heads outta their asses and produce the new design. that is sick, maybe when i get my ls paid off i will buy one of the new ones. they should def stick to the RWD set up instead of front wheel drive.... i had a feeling that the new Impalas would be rather sick looking considering that the new Malibu's looked pretty insane. def looking forward to the release of these, so hopefully they still come out and the price tag is not too pricey.

They look like a civic knock off.
