rack and pinion on a 1963?

I am toying with the idea of trying to find a rack and pinion system on my 1963 impala. From what I have read it seems like it might be possible but not very easy. Keeping the original gears is the alternative. Has anyone done or seen this done?

Way to much money for me to use it.I use a 500 box in my 62 Biscayne and I'm pretty happy with it.:
