'63 Inline 6 with 3 on the tree?

My dad has a '63 Impala SS with an inline 6 and a 3spd on the column. Is this a rare '63 or were they pretty common? He's thinking about selling it for like 2 or 2.5Gs so he can start restoring his '64 but I'm gonna try to convince him to keep it at least until I can afford to buy it.

Why?

I guess it was up to the person writing the check for the car, but who in their right mind would order a 1963 SS with an inline 6? I guess hindsight is always 20/20.
