Leather looks brand new again (with short how-to) |
|
Jan 08, 2012 - 8:05 PM - by PsyberEMT
|
So a few months ago I started considering trying to find new leather seats at a bone yard. Mine just didn't look or feel right. I understand completely that this is GM leather, not BMW or Benz, but still, I've had other Chevy's with cowhide, fords, acuras, bmws, etc and something just didn't quite seem right. I chalked it up to cheap leather and left well enough alone.
Fast forward to this week, I just drove the SS from Denver, CO to Charleston, SC, to Atlanta, GA, back to Charleston, back to ATL, back to Charleston, most of the time having a passenger and a back seat full of crap. Now the leather REALLY looked bad. Looked dark and dingy, had some small spills of god knows what on it, so I decided to give it a cleaning. Bought the lexol, cleaned per instructions, conditioned...NADA! Didn't help a bit. Gave up for a day or so .
As part of my move, I bought new furniture including a leather couch. The salesman suggested I clean it with saddle soap, and said if it got really bad it was safe to use a *soft* bristled brush to work the soap into the leather. Figured if it'd work on a leather cough, my seats are just a split couch lol.
Now for the how-to:
Needed:
1 large tin of saddle soap, I used kiwi but there are other brands
At LEAST... [Read More]

Leather shift lever installed! |
Sep 23, 2011 - 12:56 PM - by TSS
|
As most of you know, the 2012 Impalas come with a leather covered shift lever. List price is about 75 bucks, but if you sweet talk your dealer parts departments, you can get it for cheaper. Mine was $49.00. PART #: 22773282 The install takes 60 seconds.
1. Shift the lever all the way towards you, towards the rear of the car, like you want to be in low gear.
2. Remove the one phillips head screw on the back side (dash side) of the lever. It is VERY short, so be careful not to lose it. See photos 1 and two - that is the screw!
3. Pull the old shift knob off. Push the new shift knob on
4. Tighten the phillips head screw.

Simple Question Thread |
Sep 13, 2011 - 9:54 PM - by Snakes
|
Okay, I was thinking about this for a while now.
Instead of making a new thread just for, example, "How much does a hood cost?", you could just post it in this thread and someone will answer the question. So any short and simple questions just post them here.
So if you guys like this idea, maybe make it a sticky thread...?
So I guess I could start off how long is the "Impala" badge that was on the side doors of the '03's?

Posting Rules (Revisited) |
Feb 16, 2011 - 8:34 PM - by donmateo
|
If you have a question, please post it ONCE in the proper forum category. With that said, it is not one PER category, it is one PER question/comment/concern/etc.
Also, please be specific about year and model as well as engine, mods and the most you know about the issue. Not doing this may result in no responses or a flagged/deleted topic.
If possible, pictures and part #s are always helpful and can speed up the response time and accuracy. Thus, we can all have a helpful and informative environment.
Please use English that is proper enough to comprehend. Nothing worse than having to sit guessing at what is being attempted to say. Also speeds up response time and accuracy.
BEFORE posting use the *Search* function and see if you cannot find answers that way or comb the proper category of your topic.
If you are selling something, PICS, PRICE AND LOCATION are REQUIRED!!!!
The rest of the forum rules can be seen here:

Turn signal flasher volume adjustment |
|
Oct 09, 2010 - 7:47 PM - by 200-A
|
|
One complaint I had with my 2010 Impala was that the turn signal flasher was not loud enough. Knowing that it was integrated into the BCM and/or radio, there was no way to change to a different flasher. So I decided to live with it. Out of curiosity, I looked at the chime setting which was at "normal'. I chnaged it to "loud" and it also changed the volume of the turn signal flasher volume to an acceptable level. The owner's manual DOES NOT mention this, and a search here did not find anything, so I felt that I should post this as it might help others.

PLEASE READ! When Posting About Car Troubles |
Jul 14, 2010 - 9:06 AM - by wanderson75
|
Hey guys. Most of you that have been around for a while already know this, but I just wanted to reiterate for some of our newer members, or people that haven't posted on car issues before.
We as a community are more than happy to help you with your car troubles, admins and users alike. But many posts are lacking the necessary information to get looking in the right direction immediately. This would be:
Year and Trim Level of the Car - Many Impala production runs had mid-year or mid-lifecycle changes in them. What may be a common issue in one model year may actually have a different common issue that displays the same symptoms. Likewise, different trim levels have different options and equipment installed.
What Size Motor Do You Have? - Even though this is usually the most important piece of information, this is almost NEVER posted in the original thread. Some model years have two or three different engine options. We need to know this before we can help you.
Do you have a Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon Displaying? - If you do, you can take the car to almost any local auto parts place and have the codes read for free. These codes are ESSENTIAL to any quick resolution.
Help us all to help you better.
Thanks.

Rear Defroster Burnt Wire Fix Write Up |
Jul 04, 2010 - 8:12 AM - by 84convertablegt
|
I noticed that there is a very common problem with 2006-up Impala rear defrosters not working. Mine was one of them. The problem is very evident once you find it. Obviously Chevy, in all of their infinite wisdom decided that the defroster circuit in the 06-up Impala's didnt need to be fused. They also used too small of a connector for the high current defroster wires. This quickly burns out. It really should be a recall due to the fire hazard. Enough people must not have died for Chevrolet to care.
If you remove the passenger side kick panel where the inside fuse box is, you will see a white connector below the fuse box. Disconnect the white connector. If your defroster isnt working and you dont have 12V at the rear window, your problem is most likely that this white connector burned out. After disconnecting the connector you should see something similar to what I have shown below.

Obviously this is the problem. A burnt, melted connector. What I did was cut the large purple wire on the engine side and cut the large black wire on the rear side of the connector. I used high quality crimp connectors with heat sealing ends and then wrapped them in tape. I added a 30amp inline fuse to protect the circuit from doing this again. Make sure the wiring you use it large enough to support the... [Read More]

I am happy to announce that the tshirts & decal sets are now here!
ImpalaForums.com Tshirts & Decal Sets For Sale Here

The design drawing doesn't do them justice at all and I really think you guys will be proud of these. Please note that the shirts are only available in dark red with silver graphics right now. We made just a few of the black ones and they won't be distrubuted at this time. If we sell out of the first run and you guys want a different color, we can vote on that. I had hoped to be able to sell them for around $15/shipped but since I did less than (50) on the first run and USPS Priority and mailing supplies are so freakin expensive, it looks like around $18.99 will be the as low as I can go. That also covers my credit card and PayPal fees. Trust me guys, I'm not making money on these. Also keep in mind that we only have a few in each size so get your orders in now. The first batch will mail out on Tuesday morning.
Also, I've decided to add a couple of paid memberships on the site.

So, I bought my impala awhile back and I went out to celebrate and show it off. Its an 04 Impala SS Indy. So my buddy takes me to a strip club and he's making a big deal about it. And the girls are all like ewww... I don't like impalas, I'd rather drive a honda. I almost got up and slapped the biatch. But now, I'm on this site and I see a few ladies with impalas. And I just want to say thank you to the ladies that have taste in what they drive.
